About Sugar Shots!

Sugar Shots! is me, myself and I at present. From time to time I have help with posting, fabric collections and bookkeeping. But the majority (99.57%) is done by myself.

I live with my daughter in a suburb in Sydney's west (nearer to Parramatta then Penrith). My cherubian daughter was always difficult to fit into cloth nappies. She is a chubby girl who was 'off the charts' for her weight, whilst not being dreadfully tall. She was also a very heavy wetter. This meant that most of the then available nappies were unsuitable, and in a fit of exasperation I turned my previous experience in design and manufacture of bespoke garments towards MCN. The first few tries were dreadful. I gave up on commercial patterns, and drafted from a childrenswear sloper the very beginnings of a workable nappy pattern. And in time, SS was born. We went live and official with MiniCuteture back in October, 2007. Prior to that, I was making many, many nappies for friends, acquaintances and chums from various online forums.

We've had our ups and downs, from elastic and hook/loop failures to evolutionary dead-ends, but have now reached a happy state in the mcn world. Product development is on-going - I have so many wants and ThingsToDo, there's always tiny finishes that can be done more precisely, and better ways of form and function. I'm a perfectionist and I'm ever-striving to do the BestThatICan. Unfortunately, reality sets in and my daughter is first and foremost. So I take hiatuses from sewing, from designing and drafting, to better meet her needs.

I have very strong beliefs in what I can only call the HandMade Revolution. Big Business has had it's way for too long now, stripping away the ethos of fine couture garments, the quality over quantity has been lost, fair trade and sustainable practises once long gone. But! they are seeing a resurgence. Sugar Shots! is Australian owned, designed and made. I'm looking into having fabrics milled locally (phew, that's huuuge!!), and am very grass roots.
